Solomon
The story
Solomon comes from the Hebrew Shlomo, rooted in shalom, peace, and it belongs to one of the wisest figures in the Bible. King Solomon, son of David, was famous for a wisdom so great that rulers traveled to hear him, most memorably in the judgment where he offered to split a baby to reveal its true mother. He built the first Temple in Jerusalem, and tradition credits him with the Song of Songs and much of Proverbs. So the name carries peace, wisdom and a certain golden-age grandeur. Cherished across Jewish, Christian and Muslim tradition alike, and warmly shortened to Sol, Solomon reads as current as it has ever been in the United States. Rich, wise and gentle, Solomon hands a child a peacemaker's name and a king remembered above all for good judgment.
