Your family already has a naming style. We find names that fit it.
Every baby-name site shows you the same popularity lists. nametree works differently: you plant the names already in your family, and it grows a tree of names that belong alongside them. Every suggestion explains itself: "shares its Hebrew roots with Elizabeth and Noa, and keeps your family's 3-letter signature." Add one you love and the tree regrows around it, finding names that fit the new shape. It stays yours to keep growing.
What it does, in one breath
Plant your family's names and nametree reads their style, then grows a tree of names that genuinely fit, each one explaining itself in plain language. Look any name up for its verified story, or browse the whole library with sliders, blends, and dials that reshuffle a live ranking as you play. It draws on about ninety naming traditions and more than 130 years of real popularity records. The full tour lives on How it works.
Your tree and your list
They do different jobs. The tree is who you are: add a name to it and nametree treats it as part of your family's style, regrowing every suggestion around it. The list is your shortlist: save a name there and nothing shifts; it simply waits for the decision, notes and all, across every tree you keep. Browse with the tree. Decide with the list.
Free to use
The nametree app is free, with no ads, and it is the whole journey: it takes you from "no idea" all the way to a chosen name. Nothing about deciding sits behind a paywall. That's how we like it.
For families who want depth, we write two letters. The Name Deep Dive ($1.99) is the full story of one name that has your attention: its true origins, its travels, its century in real records, and how it reads against your family if you have grown a tree. The Family Name Report ($2.99) is for the deciding moment: your finalists side by side, read against your family's naming signature. Both are written by frontier-model intelligence working over our matching engine, our curated library, and real records; both can be gifted. The full comparison.
The name library
The nametree library (our curated names, meanings, cultural annotations, and collections) is an original compilation, © The Road South, Inc. It's served for use in this app; bulk copying or republication isn't permitted.
Who made this
nametree is a project of The Road South, Inc., a husband-and-wife team. He came to names through linguistics first, then computer science, then years spent building family-history software, which is where the conviction took hold: names live in families, not in lists. The AI-powered matching engine at the heart of nametree is that pairing at work, language and code. She is a designer, and the site you're using is her design. It first took shape at home in 2014, and what you see here is that idea, built: his engine, her eye.
