Compare two baby names side by side
Down to two names? Put them next to each other: when each one was in fashion, where in the world it is used, what it means and how it sounds.
When each name was in fashion
US Social Security records by decade, 1890s to 2020s. Each line is drawn against its own peak, so it shows when the name was in fashion, not which of the two is more common. The numbers are in the table below.
Where each name is on the record
Official birth records. More dots means more common there.
The basics
Where do the numbers come from?
From the official birth records each country publishes, the same ones every name page shows, each with its source. There are no estimates or surveys here.
Why does the chart not say which name is more common?
Each line is drawn against that name’s own best decade, so the chart shows timing: when a name was in fashion and whether it is rising now. For how common a name is, read the country table, which says one baby in how many.
Can I compare names from my list?
Yes. The names you have saved appear under the two boxes; tap two of them. Your list is kept on this phone, with no account.
