The story
Andrii is an alternate transcription of Андрій, Behind the Name's Andriy, the Ukrainian form of Andrew, and Andrew runs back to the Greek andreios, "manly", from aner, "man"; in the New Testament, Andrew is the first disciple to join Jesus and the brother of Simon Peter. The double-i ending follows Ukraine's official romanization table, the Cabinet of Ministers standard that renders Андрій as Andrii and Київ as Kyiv, so the spelling itself marks the current written form of a Ukrainian name in Latin letters. The published American record carries no Andrii line, and IBGE does not list Andrii at its publication threshold. An apostle's name in its Ukrainian written form, carried into Latin letters exactly the way the official table says to write it.
