The story

Eloise is the English form of Old French Héloïse, probably from the Germanic name Helewidis. Scholars connect its elements with health or wholeness and width, but the reconstruction is not certain. Despite a tempting resemblance, Eloise is not historically built from Greek Helios, sun, and it is not a form of Louise. The great medieval bearer Héloïse was a scholar and abbess whose letters with Peter Abelard remain famous. American children's literature added the fictional six-year-old Eloise at the Plaza Hotel in 1955. The curve begins moderately around 1900, fades through the middle twentieth century, then turns upward in the 2000s and reaches its strongest level in the 2020s. Elo and Ellie can shorten it, while the full name preserves a medieval French line now enjoying a genuine revival.
