Ihor is the Ukrainian form of Igor, written Ігор. Both descend from the Old Norse Yngvarr brought into Eastern Europe by Varangians, but Ihor is not a casual alternate spelling of the Russian form. It records Ukrainian language and transliteration. Medieval Prince Ihor of Kyiv appears in the East Slavic epic known as The Tale of Igor's Campaign, while modern Ukrainian bearers keep the form current in ordinary life. This site's American curve shows only faint traces in the 1950s and 1960s, which reflects the limits of US registration rather than the name's standing in Ukraine. The cleanest story keeps kinship and distinction together: Igor and Ihor share a deep root, yet each belongs to a real language tradition.
