Ishani is an attested feminine divine name, not a character promise. In a translated Shiva Purana passage, Ishani appears among nine Durgas; a Purana index also identifies it as a Shakti. A vivid modern bearer is MIT anthropologist Ishani Saraf. Her research moves through scrap markets and dry ports, following the trade and transformation of discarded machines and metal across South Asia and the Indian Ocean. The materials gain new value as they circulate. The sacred attestation does not explain Saraf's work. The connection is only a juxtaposition: one history is textual and divine, while the other follows material change through markets and ports. Saraf carries Ishani from a Sanskrit sacred register into markets, ports, and lives built around discarded metal.
