Meaning
family colt (家駒); famously borne by Wong Ka Kui, lead singer and songwriter of Hong Kong rock band Beyond, one of Cantopop's most influential musicians
The story
Ka-Kui is the Cantonese reading of 家駒, family colt in this collection, and in Hong Kong it is written on one grave above all. Wong Ka Kui founded the rock band Beyond in 1983 and was its lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and primary songwriter; the band is widely considered the most successful and influential Cantopop band from Hong Kong. He wrote over a hundred songs in a short life, among them Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies, written in 1993, an anthem of Cantonese rock music ever since. That same year he died, at thirty-one, after an accident during the filming of a game show at a Tokyo television studio. The songs stayed. In American birth records Ka-Kui does not chart, which says nothing about how often the name is sung: that chorus is still an anthem of Cantonese rock, sung back word for word.

Not on the record in Spain, Mexico City, Argentina, Puerto Rico, England and Wales, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland and Poland: those registries withhold small counts, so rare uses may sit below their floors.
Not on the Chile record: nametree keeps spellings that reached 5 registrations in some year, so rarer uses are not shown. Not on the Montevideo record for 1940 to 2011: that registry withholds nothing, so this spelling was not given there in those years. Not on the France record: nametree keeps spellings that reached 20 births in some year, so rarer uses are not shown. Not on the South Australia record for 1944 to 2017: that registry withholds nothing, so this spelling was not given there in those years. Not on the Austria record for 1984 to 2025: Statistik Austria publishes every first name down to a single birth, so this name was not given there in those years (before 2010 the record covers babies with Austrian citizenship only). Not on Norway’s list: Statistics Norway lists only first names carried by 200 or more living people, so rarer names are not shown.
