The story
Nejc is a Slovene diminutive of Jernej, says Behind the Name, and the chain behind it is a very long walk: Jernej is the Slovene form of Bartholomew, the English form of the Greek Bartholomaios, itself from an Aramaic name meaning "son of Talmai"; in the New Testament, Bartholomew is the byname of an apostle, possibly the same person as the apostle Nathanael.
