Sri begins with a Sanskrit word for radiance, beauty, prosperity, and dignity. Across South Asia it also functions as a title of respect placed before a name, and it is associated with the goddess Lakshmi as Shri. In Telugu and Tamil naming, Sri can stand alone or begin longer names; in Indonesia the related form is familiar too.
