Meaning
vocabulary word 'treasure', a valued possession
The story
Treasure has a story in which possession ends with a gift. Edith Pretty owned the land at Sutton Hoo in England and asked archaeologist Basil Brown to investigate its great mounds. The excavation uncovered an Anglo-Saxon ship burial filled with weapons, goldwork, silver, and the fragments of a now famous helmet. A treasure inquest ruled that the finds belonged to Pretty. She could have kept or sold them. Instead, she gave the entire discovery to the British Museum, the largest gift from a living donor in its history at the time. Treasure is an English word-name for something valued and carefully kept. Pretty's choice complicates that definition in the best way. Value did not require private ownership. The objects became a shared doorway into an early medieval world connected far beyond Britain. A child called Treasure inherits no museum tale, but the name can hold the generous idea that what is precious may be protected by sharing it.

Not on the record in Spain, Mexico City, Argentina, Puerto Rico, New Zealand, Scotland and Poland: those registries withhold small counts, so rare uses may sit below their floors.
Not on the Chile record: nametree keeps spellings that reached 5 registrations in some year, so rarer uses are not shown. Not on the Montevideo record for 1940 to 2011: that registry withholds nothing, so this spelling was not given there in those years. Not on the France record: nametree keeps spellings that reached 20 births in some year, so rarer uses are not shown.
