The story
Ariella has a lion in its name family and a spirit waiting just beyond it. It is a feminine form of Ariel, the Hebrew name meaning "lion of God." Shakespeare gave Ariel another life in The Tempest: a spirit who helps Prospero stage the storm and bring the ship's passengers safely ashore. That Ariel spends the play working toward freedom, which Prospero grants at the end. The gentle ending opens onto a name associated with both a lion and a character who can change the weather of a scene. The most moving moment comes when the work is over. After all the spectacle, Ariel's reward is release. A short step back through Ariella's family reveals a story with room to fly.
