Also written Léopold.

The story

Léopold pairs two old Germanic elements, people and bold, and wears them with distinctly French polish. Its royal chapter belongs to Belgium: three kings of the Belgians have carried the name, beginning with Léopold I, the German-born prince invited to become the brand-new country's first king in 1831. Long before that, Leopolds ruled Austria for centuries, among them the medieval margrave Saint Leopold, still that country's patron saint. In the United States the name is a true stranger: American records show essentially nothing across more than a century, with only a trace appearing in the 2020s. That makes Léopold a genuinely rare pick with an unusually grand resume, a name that has governed kingdoms and empires yet remains all but untouched in American nurseries, waiting, with the patience of old royalty, for someone to notice.
