Meaning

"little hollow", from a Scottish surname derived from a place name in Ayrshire, built on Gaelic lag with a diminutive ending

The story

Logan’s old landscape is a little hollow in Ayrshire, Scotland. The given name comes from a Scottish surname drawn from a place name, built on Gaelic lag, "hollow" or "pit", with a diminutive ending. Marvel supplies a second widely recognized Logan: Wolverine of the X-Men. Australian BMX rider Logan Martin found rather different ground at Crestmead skate park in Queensland. When he began freestyle at twelve, he and his father searched Brisbane for old mattresses to soften the landings. His father brought them with a wheelbarrow of sand, then repeated the job after the council removed the mattresses. Martin later won the first men’s Olympic gold in BMX freestyle at the Tokyo Games. The medal is the public milestone; those repeatedly replaced mattresses preserve the wonderfully practical family detail at the beginning of his sporting story.
