The story
Nefertiti means the beautiful one has come, and rarely has a name been so precisely fulfilled. Queen Nefertiti was the Great Royal Wife of the pharaoh Akhenaten in the fourteenth century BC, his partner in a religious revolution that turned Egypt toward worship of the sun disk, and possibly, some scholars argue, a ruler in her own right after his death. Her face became immortal almost by accident: the painted limestone bust unearthed at Amarna in 1912, now in Berlin, is among the most reproduced images of antiquity, serene, symmetrical, endlessly modern.
