Meaning

pet form of Stephen/Stephanie, "crown"

The story

Stevie is an English affectionate form of Stephen or Stephanie, for women and men, reaching through that family to Greek Stephanos, "crown" or "wreath." Stevie Wonder was discovered at twelve and built a Motown career as a songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist. For Stephanie "Stevie" Nicks, recordings span both her work with Fleetwood Mac and a career as a solo artist. Fleetwood Mac had three songwriters competing for space on each album. When running time kept Silver Springs off Rumours in 1977, the experience strengthened Nicks’s resolve to make solo records. Bella Donna arrived in 1981, with The Wild Heart following it. The solo albums became a second home for her songwriting. She could keep making music with Fleetwood Mac and release more of her own songs than one band’s running time would allow. She became the first woman inducted twice into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with the band and as a solo artist.

Not on the record in Spain, Mexico City, Puerto Rico and Poland: those registries withhold small counts, so rare uses may sit below their floors.

Not on the Chile record: nametree keeps spellings that reached 5 registrations in some year, so rarer uses are not shown. Not on the Montevideo record for 1940 to 2011: that registry withholds nothing, so this spelling was not given there in those years. Not on Norway’s list: Statistics Norway lists only first names carried by 200 or more living people, so rarer names are not shown.
