Meaning
variant of Jackson, from an English surname meaning "son of Jack"
The story
Jaxson changes what the eye sees while keeping a familiar English sound. It is a variant of Jackson, the surname meaning "son of Jack", and both names have the English pronunciation JACK-sən. The spelling has a small companion in Jax, a short form. Look further back and Jack has already passed through changes of its own: Jackin, earlier Jankin, began as medieval diminutives of John. Jack also stands as a name in its own right, so the chain holds both a short form’s history and an independent name. The exact spelling Jaxson appears in a Jacksonville Jaguars ticket-package announcement from 1996, referring to the team’s mascot. The September announcement called its namesake the team’s "zany mascot" and used him to sell season tickets.
