The story
Jayce is a respelling of Jace, which is itself a modern short form usually attached to Jason, and Jason is Greek, from a root meaning to heal. Follow the chain and there is real etymology at the end of it, but the honest description of Jayce is that it is a sound American families liked and then spelled their own way. That is not a small category: the Jace, Jayce, Jaycee and Jayceon group is one of the more productive spelling families of the last thirty years. It is overwhelmingly a boys' name here, about 45,400 to 1,700. The curve is almost entirely recent: 505 babies in the 1980s, 1,376 in the 1990s, 6,059 in the 2000s, and nearly 25,000 in the 2010s.
