The story

Wyatt is a surname built from an older first name. Medieval Wyard and Wyot lead back to the Old English Wigheard, a compound associated with battle and hardiness. The surname's great American image is Wyatt Earp, the lawman tied to the 1881 gunfight near the O.K. Corral, which gave the sound a permanent place in the mythology of the West. Yet parents did not rush to it immediately. The US curve stays near the floor for most of the record, begins to stir in the 1990s, and then climbs in every decade that follows. The 2020s are Wyatt's strongest period so far. That delay is part of the appeal: the name feels weathered and historical, but its widespread use is thoroughly modern. It offers the dust and resolve of a Western without requiring a long or ornate form.
