Meaning

modern Latin American coinage, no ancient etymology

The story

Yareli has the honesty of a modern name whose exact origin remains open. It is used in Latin American Spanish and may be an elaboration of Yara, but the evidence does not support a confident ancient translation. Mexican actor and writer Yareli Arizmendi gives it a vivid public life. She played Rosaura in Como agua para chocolate, then co-wrote and starred in Un día sin mexicanos, a satire imagining California after its Latino population suddenly disappears. Arizmendi and her collaborators drew on immigrant experience and used comedy to ask who keeps a society working while remaining unseen. Her films do not solve the name's etymology or explain why any family chose it. They offer something more truthful than a decorative legend: a bearer who carried Yareli across languages, stages, and screens. Some names arrive with centuries of documentation. Others gather their history in public, one life and one story at a time.

Not on the France record: nametree keeps spellings that reached 20 births in some year, so rarer uses are not shown. Not on the South Australia record for 1944 to 2017: that registry withholds nothing, so this spelling was not given there in those years.
