Through Ethan, it reaches a Hebrew name understood as “solid,” “enduring” or “firm.” That relationship matters when looking backward, because the name written above Psalm 89 is Ethan the Ezrahite, rather than Eithan. The heading attributes the poem to him; it does not settle historical authorship. The poem itself begins with lasting promises and the covenant with David, then turns toward rejection and an urgent question about how long God will remain hidden. The contrast gives “enduring” a more searching setting than a simple declaration of strength.
