Kaden is a modern spelling of Caden, one member of the large American sound family that includes Caiden, Cayden, Kaiden, Kayden, Aidan, and Braden. Caden is sometimes linked to the Irish surname Mac Cadáin, whose personal-name root has uncertain meaning. The modern given name's success, however, is closely tied to the fashionable -aden sound that spread in the 1990s and 2000s. Kaden's own US curve is almost empty before the 1980s, rises in the 1990s, reaches a broad high across the 2000s and 2010s, and then eases in the 2020s. That line belongs to this spelling alone; its sound-alikes followed separate curves. Kaden is therefore best understood as a precise spelling choice within a generational naming movement, not as an ancient Aidan variant with a borrowed meaning.
